Windsurfing: West Mersea Esplanande
Wind Direction: W/WNW
Wind Stength: F2-5
Surf / Sea State: flat
Air Temperature: warm
Sea Temperature: warm
Weather: Sunny
Max Speed: 24.2 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 8.3 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

Me and Ian went Mersea. (to Mark W) we parked on the green, not the windsurf hut, it has its own carpark, and u don’t have to cross the road as its next to the beach + rigging is great on the grass. Park in the middle of the green with the other windsurfers as there is a wide gap between huts straight to the beach.
Water was perfect, wind about 15kt with slightly bigger gusts. Arrived about 11.00 (50 mins journey) and there was one windsurfer out on about 7M ish + kiters. Ian was on 7M planed all bloody day the bastard, but I rigged 7.5 cam, and was spot on first thing, but was up/down for me. Wish I had rigged 8.5M as I was just off the plane sometimes and would have planed all day.
Flat water is great, and hammered big reaches over to Bradwell, but had to turn well before as the wind drop from time to time. Never saw Ian off the plane.
Mersea is def worth the trip. There were prob 12-15 windsurfers – several kites, plenty of water by 11.00 well be4 high water about 2.30 ish, (should av got there by 10.00).
Had a chat with Danny and Pete Rowe if anyone remember Pete from race days, and his freestyle star son Max – cant believe it they live local and came late missing the wind :) , just like me sat at Felixstowe :)
They said they were on 5.7 Sat and windy all day. Left about 3.0 today as tide was about 2.30.
I don’t think it would be a good idea to sail there in dodgy wind on out going tide…
Would have been 5 star if I had rigged 8.5M and got off the water when overpowered, so 4****
Ian had it 5***** the bastard…
Danny was pulling the downhaul guts out of a Tushy 6.5m but wasn't planing all the time, so he changed down to 5.8! makes no sense in that wind :) Mersea boys dont use big sails me think as most were on 6 ish, which clearly wasn't enough.
